They won it most recently in '03 (34-26) and in '04 (34-7). This win gives the West a 19-17 lead in the series since it started in '72.
The mens basketball season has been the hardest to win. That was the first win in 20 or so years I believe.

According to the VHSCAINC website the West won in '04 and last year, but those had been the only since '90, so that was a pretty good stretch for the East. I was kind of curious so while I was on there I looked up some of the series records for each sport.
Football:
West 19-17 (West had a good stretch from '81-'95 in which they won 12 of 15. East had won 9 of the last 13 games).
Boys Basketball: East leads 27-10
(West has won 3 of the last 5 games. The West took the first 3 games of the series but then only won 4 games from '75 until '03).
Girls Basketball: West leads 18-11
(The East took 4 of the first 6 games then only won 4 from '86-'04. East had won the previous 3 games before this year though).
Baseball: West leads 17-16
(West won 9-13 from '84-'96 and have won 3 of the last 4 games).
Softball: East 15-3
(Only wins for West came in '93, '95, and '98).
Volleyball: East 9-6
(West won 4 of the first 5 but have only gotten two since then, and those coming in '03 and '04).
Boys soccer: East 11-2-1
(West wins were in '99 and '05, the tie coming in '01).
Girls soccer: Tied 5-5
(Started in '99, West won first two games of the series, and had won the previous 3 until this year's game).
